The ceremony will take place at the Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas, Argostoli, which is famed throughout Greece for its miraculous icon ”Our Lady the Prevenzana”. The icon dates from 14th Century and was discovered by the Venetians at the bottom of the sea. After its restoration, they kindly presented it to the church as a gift, where it is cherished by both Catholics and Orthodox alike, as the Virgin Mary is always ready to listen to your prayers.

The following documents are required:

• A ten year passport each – and a legalised photocopy.
• A full length birth certificate – and a legalised photocopy.
• Certificate Of Baptism* for each of you.
• Certificate of Confirmation* for each of you.
• Certificate with the assurance that you are free from any Canonical impediment for marriage*

*These certificates should be obtained from the priest of the parish where you were baptised/confirmed, and must include you father’s and mother’s names and your mother’s maiden name. Take the certificates to the priest of the parish in which you currently reside, and he will make the appropriate prenuptial inquiries and Catechetical instruction, he will then issue a Freedom To Marry Certificate.

This should all be arranged at least 2 months before the planned wedding date. Once in resort a meeting will be arranged in the local parish office where you will also pay the Wedding Celebration Fee of 230 Euros.

Finally, all documents need to be officially translated by an authorised Greek translator
Please note the papers for marriage are valid only for a 4 month period starting from the day of issue.
